                                            Clementine.

She walked down the grand staircase of her home looking for her brother from room to room.
The house was far too big she thought, for only her and her brother, not to say the rest of her family, and the help didn't live there, but their parents were always off on trips and off with friends, or out in society, making the Alice family name far bigger than it had to be.
She was a daughter of the Alice family of France, one of the wealthiest families of the 19th century, and the oldest, they were old money, her great, great, great grandfather had set the families future for many generations with a extraordinary finding of black gold back in his days.
She continued her walk down the halls of her home, she wore a short dress that came down to her knees, the color of black with white lacing, a low collar that showed off her family ink right above her left breast.
A white ribbon tied around her waist ending in an enormous bow with a long black train embedded with white roses following her every step. She
came to her family drawing room, where they would greet guest every Sunday, the visiting day. Her parent's idea for them, to be more a part of society, and get used to public meetings and parties; however she absolutely hated the idea. Upon entrance the room was a light blue color, with a chestnut brown crown molding, it was full of old family portraits of various members, expensive furniture, rare paintings and other elegant trinkets scattered around. She scanned the room, but before she finished, her eyes came to a sudden stop.
Before her, stood none other than herself. She looked at a grand mirror, floor to ceiling, with an exquisitely beautiful floral border around it. But what the frame held scared her. Looking back at her was a lovely girl, of brown hair, and dark eyes, the perfect heart shaped face, plump full lips and the body to go along with it. She wore the very same dress… of course she was, it was herself she was looking at.
She hated it. Felt disgusted by the fabric that wrapped around her body, tailored just to fit her so all her best qualities were shown and sculpted for the world to see.

The idea of society, and what it stood for, and all its glamour, fashion, manors, it made her sick. She wanted a different life. And by god she had the money to do it. But did she have the heart?

"Little sister? What on earth are you wearing? Don't you hate stuff like that?"

The voice came from near the fire, and there thrown lazily on the couch was her darling brother Demetri.
He was slightly taller than her, but the younger of the two, yet he liked to play the big brother, it didn't bother her all that much, it felt kind of nice actually.
He was dark haired, except for a patch of blond at his bangs, a blue eye, and the other cover by a patch, due to an accident he had, which most definably changed his life.
For the better, ironically.
He wore a pin-striped white button shirt undone at the top and his sweet deep blue tie around his neck, on top a double breasted gray vest, with matching slacks. He lay there, with a glass of wine in one hand, and his pocket watch in the other.

"Oh… There you are"

"Well yes, here I am, what can I do you for?"

She looked back at him, with a face all too familiar to him, it was a face of concern and confusion, and he knew it all too well.
Demetri frowned, and sat up on the couch, "Oh Clementine..."
He walked to her, and put his arms his sister and embraced her in a warming hug, "Something has been bothering you for the last few days, and don't deny it, it's completely obvious to me."
She looked at him with slightly shocked face, although she wasn't completely suspired. She and her brother had always been close siblings, they've always shared their secrets, but she always made sure not to spill all of them.
She couldn't blame him though; he was and loved being a society boy.
He had so much more interest in the parties, and public, the media, and the fashion, completely opposite of her. He knew how to act in society, and worst of all, he could read people, he could tell if people were really what they said, or if they were pretending for a night to be part of France's high society.

Meaning, reading her would be no trouble at all for him.
Her face became stern and she pulled away from her brother's grasp, "What are you talking about, D?"

"Oh Clem, it's completely obvious that you are not too fond of our lifestyle; the constant stabbing of society in our life, and the force of our parents in it? No surprise... Plus, hun, I've been in your room, the maps and compasses, and oh, don't get me started on all the scandalous clothing you have stored in there. It's very un-lady like."

He ended with a warm grin as her face turned slightly red from embarrassment.

One of the house servants came into the drawing room with some afternoon tea, and announcing that they had a guest.
The siblings looked at each other with a bit of surprise in their eyes, they most certainly were not expecting a guest, Demetri smiled, and told his sister to run off to another part of the house, that he would most certainly take care and greet the unexpected guest.

Clementine quickly left the drawing room ran up the marble staircase and into her room to dream about long desired adventures.
This is part one of a story I started a while back to explain my steampunk character, Demetri Alice's background, and whole story as to who he is, or was. It's broken down into parts, I'm submitting only one part first because I'd like to see how it fairs and I mostly would love some feedback.

:iconkajina:'s character is also in it, she is my character's older sister.

Other friends of mine are in later chapters.
